Forecasters warn east coast of 'frankenstorm'

Forecasters warn east coast of the 'frankenstorm' [VIDEO]. An unusual nasty mix of a hurricane and a winter storm that forecasters are now calling "Frankenstorm" is likely to blast most of the East Coast next week.

The storm is forecast to take a turn toward the Atlantic Coast and make landfall early next week between Virginia and Nova Scotia.

Sandy will continue to parallel the East Coast and will affect the Bahamas as a strong hurricane. Florida and southern Georgia, further away, will feel tropical storm force strength wind from the storm.

Storms that originate in colder climates are called cold core storms. Tropical storms, as they move into colder water, often transition into a cold core storm.

Either the storm will make the early landfall Sunday between Maryland and New York City, or it will swing out to sea and make it’s New England hit on Monday. The chances of the storm not coming ashore between Maryland and New York City are very small.

Please take all needed precautions to be safe and check back often for updates. Track Sandy here.
